When is the Not Ordinary Times season?
The "Not Ordinary Times" season of worship spans the roughly six months between Pentecost and Advent -- summer and fall for the northern hemisphere. In 2017, this season runs from June 11 through November 26, and includes 25 Sundays.
Congregations are encouraged to devote a significant part of this six month season to the themes of Not Ordinary Times -- at least six weeks is recommended.
As an alternative to the summer-fall time frame, some churches may use the Not Ordinary Times topics for a Lenten theme.

In the cycle of the traditional church year, the time between Pentecost and Advent is considered "ordinary time" -- which refers to the "ordering" of Sundays in this part of the year.
We are playing off of the name for this part of the church year, to stress that these are not ordinary times, either in the church or in terms of global ecological disruption. To be faithful and relevant in such times, it is essential that churches be intentional about addressing the new and challenging questions of faith and ethics that are raised by this unique situation.
